Acacia

Latin name: Acacia melanoxylon

Origin: Australia

Characteristics: Heartwood is golden-brown in color, with occasional mild contrasting darker streaks.  Not widely available as sliced veneer but occasionally available in both plain sliced and quartered. There are approximately 1300 acacia species most growing in Australia. The most popular member of the acacia family in sliced veneer is koa which is readily available.

Use: Architectural woodwork, furniture and doors.
