Elm, Red
Latin name: Ulmus rubra
Origin: North America
Characteristics: Color is dark brown with a reddish tone. Used as a substitute for European Elm as they are very similar and Dutch Elm disease limits availability. Straighter and more uniformly grained than its cousin Grey Elm. Somewhat limited production and the logs can have a lot of tension. Demand is for the quartered material.
Uses: Architectural woodwork and fine furniture
