Latin name: Hymenaea courbaril
Origin: Central and South America
Characteristics: Heartwood varies from orange-brown to salmon red, deep red when freshly cut turning to rich reddish-brown when seasoned and can develop black – olive streaks. Demand is generally for quarter cut but plain sliced is also available. Is very popular in the flooring market and takes a finish exceptionally well.
Uses: Architectural woodwork, fine furniture and flooring.
