Madrona

Latin name: Arbutus menzeesii

Origin: North America

Characteristics: Color is pale reddish-brown to pinkish-tan. Some plain sliced and quarter cut logs are available but difficult to find in good grades. The logs are found in the high Sierras and the better veneer logs are often egg shaped with an off centered heart. Burls are most common and are fine textured, lustrous and can be stunning under a finish.

Use: Architectural woodwork, fine furniture and marine and aircraft interiors.
