Sapele

Latin name: Entandophragma cylindricum

Origin: Africa

Characteristics: Heartwood varies from light pink to dark red and quickly darkens to a red-brown in time. Aboudikro-Sapele, which generally grows along the Ivory Coast, tends to be darker than other Sapele. Demand is generally for heavily striped quarter grain but plain sliced is produced and typically has a narrow heart with striping in the quarter grain. Logs are very large and consistent allowing for good sequencing in large projects.

Use: Architectural woodwork and fine furniture.
