Sycamore

Latin name: Acer pseudoplatanus

Origin: Central Europe

Characteristics: Almost white in color, wood yellows under light and air exposure if veneers are not dried quickly. Heart discoloration may also happen, but is not typically a problem because demand is for the quarter grain and they are large diameter of logs. Logs without pin knots are rare impacting the species popularity for high end applications. Occasionally crotches are available but are extremely rare.

Use: Architectural woodwork and furniture.
