Ziricote
Latin name: Cordia dodecandra
Origin: Central America
Characteristics: Sapwood is creamy-white to yellow-brown. Heartwood is dark red-brown to violet with irregular dark brown and deep black areas. High density and extremely fine in texture. Interlocking grain creates extraordinary patterns such as “monkey ears” or “bumps” in the grain. This specie is widely available but very expensive and thus tends to be used on only the most exclusive projects.
Use: Architectural woodwork, fine furniture and musical instruments.
